Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Acute Care Med Surg Duration: 17 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years in Acute Care Med Surg setting License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Basic Med Surg skills, some cardiac skills preferred Description: Strict 75-mile radius rule is enforced. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5. Staffing includes RNs and LPNs. The unit has a total of 14 beds. Common patient types include admission hold patients and discharge pending patients. Medication administration for IV and PO orders is expected for admission hold patients. Discharge pending patients require basic care, including medications and pain control with PO orders. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common drips include heparin and lasix. Charge nurses may have patient assignments. There is one patient care technician in the unit. RNs are not required to read telemetry strips on this unit. Shifts are 7 AM to 7 PM, Monday to Friday. The unit is not open on weekends. Holiday requirements exist if they fall during the week. There is no call or standby requirement. Potential floating may occur if census is low, moving to the Med Surg unit. Correct scrub colors include Caribbean blue tops and bottoms, white tops with Caribbean blue bottoms, or all white. Typically, 3 shifts of unit-specific training are provided. Charting is done using MEDITECH - 6.1.
